1943, American Self-Portrait; Laurette Charlton
A remarkably insightful composition depicting Laurette Charlton at 48 with compelling expression, posture, color palette and attire.
Charlton was extremely shy and it is likely that this painting, which until now was stored in a Florida basement, was doubtless never presented for viewing.
A fellow member of the Arts Students League, Charlton's paintings reside throughout the US in private collections. She studied with Georg Luks, Wayman Adams and George Pierce Ennis at the Grand central School of Art in New York.
