About the Artist
Tor Hörlin (1899 - 1995)
Tor Hörlin studied at evening school and then Althin's Painting School.
He then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts 1919 - 1923. He later became the head teacher at the School of Art in Decorative Painting 1947 - 1957 and a member of the Swedish Arts Council 1943 - 1949.
Hörlin's landscapes and interiors are characterized by a simplified form, clean and clear colour schemes and an atmospheric poetic depiction of light.
He has carried out a number of major decorative paintings in both public and private buildings, including at Karolinska Hospital, Västerås Crematorium, as well as glass, mosaic and wall paintings at Kockum's mechanical workshop in Malmö. He has also performed a number of paintings in Swedish rural churches.
Hörlin had several solo exhibitions and has participated in Swedish exhibitions in Copenhagen, Oslo, Rome, Venice, Tehran and Baghdad. His art is represented at the National Museum and the Modern Museum in Stockholm, as well as at the Gothenburg Art Museum], Malmö Museum, Norrköping Art Museum and Örebro County Museum.
