Mid Century, Swedish Oil Painting, 'Townscape,' Hans Osswald (1919-1983)

Swedish, abstract townscape painted in gloriously thick reds, crimsons and lilac oils with just the right amount of green to balance. A beautifully decorative work by a mid century master.

About the artist

Hans August Osswald (1919 - 1983) , was a Swedish painter, illustrator and graphic artist .

Osswald exhibited separately at Louis Hahne's gallery in Stockholm in 1947, which was later followed by separate exhibitions in Örebro and Kalmar.
He participated in group exhibitions with Dalarna's art association and an ABF exhibition in Ludvika as well as in traveling exhibitions with graphics and sculpture and with Konstfrämjandet .
His art consists of abstract paintings with primitive patterns of fish and birds made in drawings, color woodcuts or gouache .
In addition to his own creation, he was active as a book illustrator .

Osswald’s work is represented in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, The King's Graphic Collection, Malmö Museum, Eskilstuna Museum, Gävle Museum and The Brooklyn Museum.
