About the artist
TORSTEN HULT (1922-2012)

Hult attended the Skånska Målarskolan (Malmö School of Painting), Maria Wadskjaers Målarskola (Maria Wadskjaers Painting School), Copenhagen (1946) and Otte Skölds Målarskola (Otte Sköld Painting School) in Stockholm (1947-1948) and took study trips to France, Spain, Germany, Austria and Norway.

In 1949, Hult was part of the showcase 'Fyra Unga Skåningar' (Four Young from Skåne) exhibition at the Norrköping Museum. The other three artists were Gustaf Arne (1925-2011), Bengt Orup (1916-1996) and Kaj Siesjö (1920-1985).

Later that year (in Helsingborg) Torsten Hult, Bengt Orup and Kaj Siesjö collaborated as 'Grupp III'. In 1950 they produced a portfolio - titled 'III' - (edition of 700) of their graphic works. The three artists then exhibited together at Galleri Brink, Stockholm (1951). Hult married the Swedish artist and designer Kerstin Lock-Hult in 1951.

Hult was selected for the Skåne artists' exhibition at Liljevalchs Konsthall, Stockholm in 1951, and in 1952 he was awarded the Skåne Art Association's scholarship and participated in the Campagne Européenne de la Jeunesse (The European Youth Campaign) exhibition held in Edinburgh. Hult was included in the 'Fem Målare' (Five Painters) exhibition at the prestigious Galleri Gummesons (Gummesons Gallery) in Stockholm (1952). Other exhibitions include Lilla konstsalongen, Malmö (1954), with Lennard Palmér (1918-2003) in Nässjö (1955).

Hult was included in the 'Swedish Abstract' exhibition which toured the United States in 1955 and the Nordic Art Association’s (Nordiska Konstförbundets) exhibition in Rome.

Hult exhibited regularly with the Swedish Art Society, the Hälsingborg Art Association and (since 1948) the Skånes Art Association.

Examples of Hults' works are held in the collections of Moderna Museet (Museum of Modern Art) in Stockholm, the Helsingborg and Malmö Museums, Borås Art Museum and the Skissen Museum in Lund.
